Mubende District

2000 Reports from Mubende | Mubende Project Photographs

Mubende District is situated to the West of Kampala approximately 30 minutes by car from the outskirts of the capital. It is on the road from Kampala to Fort Portal which is near to the border with The Congo. Being near to Kampala it has often been visited by UK Scouts and the Mityana Pig features well in the minds of many. Presently Northumberland Scouts are working in the area.

As part of Uganda 2000, Geoff Dunstan and his wife Val from Surrey will be leading a Unit of 12 to Bulera, Mityana to help in the progress of building a school for local children, many of whom are orphans. The concept started from the Peace Rover Scouts who have already established a school on the site but this is constructed of natural materials and is very temporary. With the help of the UK contingent, it is intended to construct more permanent brick-built classrooms so that the school can take up a recognised status.

Coincident with this project, a water harvesting scheme will be incorporated by providing metal roofing, channelling and a storage vessel. This will not only benefit the school pupils but also some of the local population.
