Uganda 2003 7th August 2003

The Group from the UK which will be visiting Soroti and Masindi plane were delayed leaving Heathrow for 3 hours due to faulty air conditioning, but have since arrived on site in Jinja and enjoyed the swimming pool and food at the Jinja Club.

We are just going to the memorial service/unveiling of the memorial plaque
at Jinja, on which a plaque is attributed to Colin Bennett..and other Avon guys..full scout uniform for everyone there, and hopefully we'll get some pictures for those who remember Colin, etc.

Thanks
Heather x

Uganda 2003 - 11th August 2003

The Explorer Belt team arrived early on friday morning, met by Nick and Rob. After a
chaotic trip through Kampala centre, lunch was had at BP house, then they travelled to Jinja, arriving at Buwende Scout campsite.

A quite night (!) was had by all on site, with just the one Nile Special...the following day the team took in The source of the Nile, Jinja town and Bujagali Falls, finishing off
with a swim at the Jinja Club swimming pool. The evening entertainment was held at the Sailing Club, for all the contingents, which gave all 70 of us a chance to let our hair down!

Sunday saw the start of the XB preparation, with the buying of supplies in Jinja, meeting the Ugandan Scout partners and route checking, after an early start at Father Picavet's Church in Jinja, which saw a good turn out even after the previous nights party..

After a few days camping together, the Soroti and Mbale contingents left on Sunday morning for safari, and the Lukotaime guys headed up to their project village.

Early this morning the Explorer Belt teams packed up to leave site. We waved all the teams off on the start of their 10 day hike...we'll see them a 100 miles later in Kamuli next wednesday. Most were smiling but there were a few anxious faces as the bus pulled away!

After having spent Thursday night at the sailing club with the remaining Avonja party and Masindi group, that only leaves Tororo, who have just arrived at site today.

We are heading off to monitor the XB teams and look in on the Lukotaime project.
Will be in touch!
