Aspley Pig

The Cub Scouts at Aspley Guise have raised £150 to buy a pig for Uganda. Alan Beavis will visit the the Group on 16 June to receive the pig, or rather the cheque with which to buy the pig.

He will organise an evening of Uganda Activities most of which can be found in the Activities Section of the Site. There are activity ideas for all sections.

Alan Beavis hands over

After a decade of being at the sharp end of the Network Alan Beavis has handed over to Marvin Takel as co-ordinator of the UK Uganda Network.

Alan first visited Uganda in the 90s and made friends with Samy Senkumba the Secretary of Friends of Scouting and Guiding Society Uganda.

Well known for his "Uganda Pig" scheme and endless energies to support the Network Alan also brought the support of Berkshire Scout Enterprises Ltd for the Network.

Everyone who knows Alan will be most grateful for his 10 years of hard work for the young people of Uganda through Scouting. He will be missed.

Marvin is known to the Network and to Scouting in Uganda as the leader of the 2003 contingent to Uganda.

Thanks Alan.

Disney Lion is dead

It used to be quite difficult to see lions on the brief Safaris to the Queen Elizabeth II National Park and then came along Disney and his family.

Many Scouts enjoyed watching Lions at very close quarters.

Sadly we regret to announce that Disney the Lion has died but recent reports indicate that his family have taken over his role in entertainment.

All Change in Africa

Jonathan Cooksley has given up the roll of co-ordinator of the Africa Network Fellowship. His successor is George Devine and joins the team of Secretary Ivy Elsey and Treasurer Tony Fulford.

The Africa Network exists to deal with UK Scouting relationships with Scouting in sub-saharan Africa.

Our thanks go to Jonathan and his family for his work in launching the Africa Network.
